One of the secret weapons of SEO writers is to use comments on other blogs and websites to improve the ranking of your own site. Two reasons make commenting especially important for website owners: the improved rankings in search engines and the credibility of having links on other sites.
When you comment on someone else’s blog – and leave your website’s link in the comment – search engine’s see this “offsite link” and improve your website’s rank. The reason is simple: your website’s link is now referenced somewhere else on the web. This means your site is likely more relevant to search engine customers.
The real key is to comment on sites that are applicable to your customers. Don’t make a comment that has nothing to do with the blog on which you are commenting. Even worse, if the blog has nothing to do with your site, then you will only confuse people. You provide a service to the other site when you make relevant comments, and they provide a service by hosting a link to your site. Be professional and give the other site quality comments.
When you make a relevant comment on another blog that is related to your website, you create credibility for potential customers. How does this work? When potential customers on other blogs see your activity and thoughtful response, they feel more confident in you as a company AND they have “discovered” you on their own. This “discovery” that they make can be a powerful motivator for the customer.
I NEVER leave comments that are irrelevant to the blog, and I NEVER leave comments on blogs that have nothing to do with my customers. This guarantees that potential customers see comments that make sense and contribute to the conversation of the blog.
No complete SEO project can omit comments on other sites. Offsite links (or crosslinking) will build credibility with both search engines and potential customers. I make sure all comments are relevant on related blogs so that when a potential customer reads the remarks, they see a thoughtful response.
