A common question I get is “how do you just sit and play like that?” Frankly, I don’t know.
How do any of us just sit and converse with each other, or sit and type an email to a friend, or text a buddy while driving and tuning the radio? All these are fairly complicated tasks that require a great deal of skill. I just developed a skill that enables me to communicate through a piano.
These are genuine, improvisational pieces. Sometimes you’ll hear background noises…I record in my living room. My kid will come hollering through sometimes. You’ll hear small slips and an occasional wrong note gets played.
I hope these don’t bother you too much, but to me it validates the authenticity of what I am trying to capture: music flowing through me to you. I don’t edit these tracks. I don’t pre-record ideas and work on them until they’re polished ideas. I feel inspiration, I hit record, and I go.
